Ahmedabad, Gujarat (I-Newswire) February 6, 2013 - The sporting weekend moved into its final day on Monday after an eventful two days. Playing contingents belonging to major B-schools from all over the country have turned up the heat at the annual sporting extravaganza SAMAR. The past two days saw many close encounters as people supported their teams with loud cheers. The matches extended well into the night but the supporters kept coming in good numbers anyway. Teams from famed B-schools like IIM-A, NITIE, NMIMS, IMI and Nirma University are fighting it out for the chance to be the best.
In addition to formal sporting events like football, cricket, tennis, volleyball etc. which tested the athletes' mettle, there were a host of informal events like Rappling, Frisbee and other fun events like 'sack race', 'lemon race' etc which saw a lot of participation.
The Literary fest, Reverie-2013 which ended yesterday had many events lined up around the theme of ‘fantasy’ on the first day. The flagship event of Reverie - "Authorspeak" saw Parul Sharma, MICA alumnus and author of the book By the Water Cooler talk about her journey from MICA to writing books. Noted classical dancer and prominent activist Mallika Sarabhai graced the occasion with her presence on the second day of the festival. Students had a very enriching and fruitful interaction with her on the topic-"Mythology through the lens of art forms : Dance & Literature". The panel was moderated by Nagesh Rao, President and Director of MICA. The discussion revolved around how great Indian epics were influenced by the storytellers who wrote them. Alternative versions of these epics were discussed and the characters portrayed were analyzed. The discussion was also supported by Mr. Anand Neelakantan, author of the famed book 'Asura:tale of the Vanquished'.
