Speedtech Introduces Speedwrap® Super Duty Tape™ A Revolutionary New Reusable Hook

This two piece, hook and loop tape fastening solution is extremely strong, available in many widths, has a high cycle life, and is competitively priced.

Speedtech introduced the Speedwrap® Super Duty Tape™ in response to high market demand for a touch fastener that was both very strong and could be used and reused over and over. “Other similar products on the market offer dual locking hook components, but the hook stems tend to break off after only a few dozen cycles, essentially making the closure lose its strength and performance values,” notes Chris Karnowski, President of Speedtech International “We wanted to offer our customers a solution that was an aggressive enough hold for permanent closure but that could indeed be re-closable time after time.” In peel testing, after 3000 cycles, Speedwrap® Super Duty Tape™ averages 2.23 PSI in peel strength and 43.30 PSI in shear strength. Speedwrap® Super Duty Tape™ truly is revolutionary and the two piece touch fastening system includes one tape that consists of a molded hook tape, which is paired with a second tape made with unapped loop, creating a semi-permanent fastener. While this hook and loop tape is extremely strong and often used in permanent installations, the tape can be pulled apart and reused multiple times. The pairing of this unnapped loop and special molded hooks ensures the hook stems do not break when pulled apart and thus can be re-engaged for repeated use.

To address the needs of the automotive market, Speedwrap Super Duty Tape is sold with foam acrylic pressure sensitive. (Foam backing is used, for example, in automotive applications as a noise barrier. The acrylic polystyrene foam backing helps with vibration and adheres to most surfaces.) The Super Duty Tape is offered with our without pressure sensitive adhesive material and with our without foam backing. The PSA is made with either acrylic or rubber based adhesives giving consumers a choice depending on their application.

Adding to the product’s flexibility and utility for multiple applications, Speedwrap Super Duty Tape is available in widths of up to 4 inches wide with adhesive backing. “Until the introduction of our product, the only width of this type of tape available on the market was 1 inch,” says Steve Pope, Speedtech International Vice President of Marketing. “Because we recognized that our customers weren’t looking for a one-size-fits-all solution, we wanted to offer an advanced tape with superior performance and make it available in different sizes for many different uses.”
