Spectrum Community School of Victoria BC in conjunction with the class of 1977 reunion joins forces to spearhead the schools first official school historical project. John Graham and Brian Whitmore of Victoria Canada lay groundwork.

(I-Newswire) October 11, 2009 - Spectrum Community School was North America’s first public school to embrace the controversial mid 1970’s educational ethos of an open learning facility and approach to education. This was done on a scale never before attempted. The overall project included a new purpose-built state of the art facility first opened in September 1977 along with a hand picked staff of nearly 100 brought together from around the world.

Spectrum Community High School is located in Victoria BC Canada and is one of Canada’s best know public education facilities. In an effort to capture the essence of the school and its origins, former history teacher Brian Whitmore working in conjunction with former student John Graham have launched an effort to collect, catalog and archive items of historical significance going as far back as 1974, the genesis of the school.

Whitmore of Victoria BC and Graham a resident of North Vancouver have cultivated a lifelong friendship that has now embraced this project. Graham states, “ The goal with all of this is to locate and collect Spectrum artifacts all of which will be housed in a new school museum”

Brian Whitmore adds to this” As a historian I am keen to make sure our origins as one of North America’s most unique schools is preserved. I plan on spending the rest of my life in this pursuit”.

The project has launched a web site johngraham.ca/spectrum in an effort to alert all former staff and students of the project. Either of the parties can be contacted through this site.
