(I-Newswire) September 8, 2010 - The Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a top-rated nonprofit organization that supports the families of fallen and wounded special operations troops, has received Charity Navigator’s highest rating – four stars – for the fifth consecutive year.

With this rating, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation becomes one of only 5 percent of the approximately 5,400 charities evaluated to receive at least five straight 4-star ratings.

This rating indicates the Special Operations Warrior Foundation “consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America,” wrote Ken Berger, President and CEO, Charity Navigator in a letter announcing the latest award. This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Special Operations Warrior Foundation from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

“All of us at the Special Operations Warrior Foundation are proud to have earned such an esteemed rating but it would not be possible without the corps of steadfast supporters and donors who agree that the least we can do is make sure the sacrifices of our special operations warriors and their families are never forgotten,” said John T. Carney, Jr., SOWF President/CEO.

Last year, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation provided $2.7 million in scholarship grants, academic, financial aid and counseling to the families of fallen special operations personnel. The foundation had 118 students enrolled in colleges and universities across the country.

In support of wounded special operations personnel and their families, the foundation provided $311,000 last year in immediate financial support so family members could be bedside at the hospital when they were needed most.
