NJCTS Partners with SPAN to present information session to Central Jersey families

Somerville, NJ (I-Newswire) March 23, 2011 - - The NJ Center for Tourette Syndrome is partnering with the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN) to present “Special Needs Children and the Juvenile Justice System” on Monday, March 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Somerset Medical Center. This presentation is taking place during the NJCTS Hunterdon/Somerset Family Support group, however, all interested community members are invited to attend.

According to SPAN, the number of children and youth with special needs in New Jersey’s juvenile justice system is highly disproportionate to that of the rest of the population. Monique Dujue Wilson of SPAN will discuss this trend and evidence that the heath and education needs youth with special needs are not being met within the juvenile justice system. This workshop is designed to provide information on the health and educational rights of children and youth with special needs in the juvenile justice system as well as the rights of parents in the decision making process.
