Special Care Spa And The Open Door Shelter For Women Host Fashion Talent Show Featuring Homeless Women in Washington, DC

Local businesses team up to give homeless women makeovers for the Holidays

The Open Door Shelter for Women (New Hope Ministries, Inc) a 108 emergency shelter for women in Washington, DC along with local small businesses host a holiday fashion and talent show featuring the residence at The Open Door Shelter for Women.

Marilyn Dawson, owner of Special Care Spa in Bowie, Maryland, is the brainchild behind this magnificent event. In 2011, Marilyn along with local hairstylists, makeup artists, and dozens of volunteers, hosted the first holiday event at The Open Door Shelter for Women. This event gave the ladies a time for much needed pampering which included clothing, hairstyling and beauty makeovers. This year, Marilyn wanted to celebrate the women by giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents and strut their stuff down the runway!

The Diva Fashion and Talent show as it's called will feature 12 women from young to old, who reside at the shelter. Each person will receive a full makeover including wardrobe for the show. All of the services will be provided by volunteer local businesses in the beauty industry. "During rehearsal the women and young ladies were so overly excited and filled with joy anticipating the event. It made my heart melt to know that we are bringing happiness and joy to these women and right before the holidays. It was also very moving to see the community rally together donating all of the clothing and apparel for the show." says Tona Michelle, owner of The Glamour Mill.

The Diva Fashion and Talent show takes place on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at The Open Door Shelter for Women, 425 2nd Street, NW Washington, DC 20001
