Sing And Dance With The Katonah Art Center This Summer

The Katonah Art Center Launches its First Musical Theater Camp

Katonah, New York (I-Newswire) February 12, 2013 - The Katonah Art Center announces its first ever musical theater camp this summer. Over the course of two weeks, the students will work on a musical, directed by Jeri Kansas, who was in the original cast of 42nd Street and Sugar Babies. On the last Friday of the camp, the students will put on a performance.

“We’re really excited to offer a musical theater camp this year,” says founder and director of the KAC, Loren Anderson. “With Broadway experience, Jeri Kansas is the ideal person to lead this new adventure.”

In addition to Jeri Kansas, students will work with teachers in dance, music and acting every day, to cover all aspects of musical theater.

For the first two sessions, July 8 - 19 (teens) and July 22 - August 2 (children), students will work on a variety of songs and dances from Newsies to The Little Mermaid to Beauty and the Beast to Mary Poppins. The next teen camp will be August 5-16, where students will work on the musical Godspell. The final musical theater camp will be a kids’ camp from August 19 - 30, and the musical will be A Year with Frog and Toad.

“I’m really looking forward to the shows,” adds Loren Anderson. “It’s incredible to see what these kids can create.”

Additionally, the Katonah Art Center will bring back favorite summer camps from last year. Most camp sessions offer an hour and a half of painting instruction, followed by topic classes, which range from mural paintings to fashion design to anime to photography. For younger kids, Dr. DoLittle’s Darlings is back by popular demand, where children completely design a hospital for their stuffed animals. Another newly added camp for teens is fused glass…a medium that the KAC staff has fallen in love with. Other exciting camp offerings can be found on the KAC website.

The Katonah Art Center is located at 131 Bedford Road, Katonah, New York. For more information about the Katonah Art Center’s Musical Theater Camp, our other summer camps, or dance and art classes, call 914 232-4843 or visit the KAC website at www.katonahartcenter.com.
