Shrewsbury Specialist Triumphs with Barn Conversion

Worcester (I-Newswire) May 9, 2011 - A Shrewsbury-based heating specialist has landed himself an Environment 2020 award having converted a 150-year-old property near Whitchurch.

Worcester, Bosch Group, one of the UK’s leading heating manufacturers, selected Keith Bentley, of Eternal Heat UK Ltd, for the award after he successfully installed a renewable heating system at the four-bedroom barn conversion.

The highly efficient heating system comprises of a Worcester Greenstore ground source heat pump and 280L Greenstore hot water cylinder. The ground source heat pump extracts the natural energy stored in the earth to heat the home - a system that is extremely environmentally friendly.

Having installed the ground source heat pump at the property, Keith was able to estimate that the state-of-the-art heating system will reduce the properties heating cost by up to 80%, based on current oil prices which will equate to a saving of £3600 this year.

Keith, who has been installing heating systems in homes for over 20 years, believes that the industry is changing and that more people should consider sustainable heating products a worthwhile investment.

Keith said: “My target was to make use of the products available in order to install an environmentally friendly heating system. People often rely on oil and gas-fuelled heating systems, but the technology available today means that there are now alternatives and more sustainable systems should be considered.

“I’m really pleased to have won the award and hope that projects such as this will encourage more people to install renewable heating systems in their homes. With the Government’s renewable heating initiative due to be launched in April 2011, grants will be on offer so there is no better time to consider the options available”

The Environment 2020 Awards initiative is an annual competition organised by leading boiler manufacturer, Worcester, Bosch Group, and recognises installers who take an environmentally responsible approach to their work. Keith will now be put forward, along with 11 other installers selected throughout the year, for the title of Overall Winner which will be announced in spring 2011. The winner of the overall competition will also be presented with travel vouchers to the value of £1,000.

The scheme also rewards the artistic efforts of young people up to the age of 16 who have created an outstanding piece of artwork that highlights the need to be energy efficient and addresses the causes of climate change.
