Each year, the Dallas Business Journal honors forty young business men and women of North Dallas for their business leadership, accomplishments and community service. This year, Shawn Petersen, CEO and founder of PrintPlace.com, was one of those honorees.

The Dallas Business Journal hosts its 40 Under Forty to recognize entrepreneurs and business men and women who are leading professionals and who have contributed greatly to the North Dallas community. This year, the DBJ held a cocktail party on June 23 for the honorees. In its June 24th issue, the DBJ included a special insert that introduces the honorees describing the qualities that led each one to this recognition.

Shawn Petersen was named this year among other leaders such as John Ansbach, CLO of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and Crayton Webb, Director of corporate communications and corporate social responsibility of Mary Kay, Inc. As the founder and CEO of online printing company PrintPlace.com, ranked number 54 on the Inc 500's Fastest Growing Companies, Shawn Petersen has quickly made a name for himself.

Petersen had intended to stay small when he first started his printing company, but his business started growing simply as a "result of having fun and being the very best at what we do," explained Petersen to the DBJ. He took the growth and ran with it; by the end of 2011, Petersen will have five online printing properties. In addition to PrintPlace.com, Petersen will debut his most recent addition, ModernGreetings.com, followed shortly by an online custom publishing site, then several business to business verticals.

The DBJ also recognized PrintPlace.com's large charity contributions in Petersen's feature. Every year the company donates over 1,000 pounds of food to the Tarrant Food Bank through matching employee donations. In addition, ten percent of PrintPlace.com' employees signed up for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life event, making the company a bronze level sponsor.

In conclusion of his interview with the DBJ, Petersen told of his plans for the future. He would like to become a consultant for midsized companies, saying that he believes "the difference between average and greatness - provided motivations and ethics are pure - is only a small percentage of the decisions we make each day."

Shawn Petersen's feature can be found on page B15 in Section B of the June 24-30, 2011 issues of the Dallas Business Journal.
