SGS Awarded Contract To Conduct Materials Testing And Quality Control For The Subway Extension In Madrid

(I-Newswire) September 10, 2010 - Since the first line opened in 1919 in Madrid, steady expansion of the metro system has taken place. For the new subway extension of Line 9, which connects Madrid with Mirasierry by three kilometers, including two new stations, SGS Spain received a contract to conduct independent inspection and quality control of the materials used.

In January 2010, SGS started with its inspection services and quality control encompassing more than 400 types of material tests. SGS will be testing almost every kind of construction material involved in this subway extension project, including cement, concrete works, bitumen and rails in order to ensure the quality of the construction works. The Material Tests will be performed on-site as well as carried out in SGS’s civil construction laboratory in Madrid.

The Material Tests by SGS Spain are performed in accordance with the Spanish UNE code as well as the regulations of RENFE, the Spanish public railway company. By the end of October 2011, the inspection work by SGS will be completed.
