Make the Martin Luther King National Holiday a day of service, not just a day off, by committing to a project that raises scholarship funds for graduates of Crenshaw High, contributes food to the Food Bank, and solicits blood for American Red Cross.

Los Angeles, CA (I-Newswire) January 3, 2012 - Make the Martin Luther King National Holiday a day of service, not just a day off, by committing to a project that raises scholarship funds for graduates of Crenshaw High School, contributes food to the LA Regional Food Bank, and solicits blood for the American Red Cross.

Starting Saturday morning, January 14th, the Friends and Family Doubles Challenge will be held at the Burbank High School Tennis Courts in Burbank, CA, and the event will offer several opportunities to promote education, health, and wellness in the Los Angeles community in honor of King’s legacy of service.

If you have thirty minutes or less to give, you can contribute. Beginning Saturday, January 14th, you can drop off food donations at the tennis courts. Also, a blood mobile from the American Red Cross will be on site Monday 11am-5pm. If you have more time to offer, volunteer Monday 12-3pm to introduce kids from the Los Angeles community to tennis, a lifelong sport that families can enjoy and incorporate into their family traditions. Ultimately, tennis can be a bridge to higher education and scholarships for young players who excel.

Avid tennis player, professor of literature, and actress, Jeryl Prescott Sales, Jacqui from AMC’s phenomenal Zombie drama The Walking Dead, is partnering with Sports Explorer to give residents of the valley another option for celebrating the community spirit Dr. King embodies.
