(I-Newswire) September 1, 2010 - Bielefeld, Germany – SEH, a leading network solution vendor, announces the launch of its dongle server myUTN-80, a novel network solution specially designed for dongle management. The compact device is simply attached to the network and provides up to eight dongles via its USB interfaces. Users operate their software protected with license dongles as usual without attaching the dongles locally to their PC. In this way, dongles are available centrally and with their full functional range across the network for several users. At the same time, they are safe from loss, damage, wear and tear and theft. The dongle server myUTN-80 allows assigning each dongle to a different user, customer or department. A broad range of security features protects unauthorized access to the dongles. Moreover, the device enables the utilization of USB license dongles in server-based computing infrastructures and virtualized environments based on VMware, Citrix XEN, and Microsoft Hyper-V, which until now has been extremely difficult if not impossible. MyUTN-80 is available from mid-September for circa 795 Euro excluding VAT.
Dongles typically come with rather valuable software licenses from several thousand Euros upwards. They protect licensed software from unwanted distribution. Users insert the dongle locally to a USB interface of their PC to run the software. If another user would like to use the dongle, he has to pull it off this PC and insert it into his own. With time, this may lead to wear and tear of the dongle. Often, users have to waste time asking colleagues about who has been using the dongle in question. Dongles also often are lost or stolen. The myUTN-80 dongle server protects dongles from damage, wear and tear and theft. Its many special functions offer a simple and powerful dongle management.
Efficient Dongle Management
The myUTN-80 dongle server by SEH is a novel network solution for managing dongles via the network. Up to eight dongles can be inserted into the USB interfaces. The software SEH UTN Manager is installed on all user PCs who are to access the dongles. As with locally attached dongles, only one user can access them one at a time via a point-to-point connection. The software vendors' license regulations are never circumvented. SEH UTN Manager lets users see immediately whether a particular dongle is available or in use by another colleague. There is no need for time-consuming enquiries and searching as to the whereabouts of dongles. As the dongles are made available from a central space, the dongle server, they no longer need to be inserted into local interfaces and pulled off again. This minimizes the risks of wear and tear, other kinds of damage, and loss.
Assigning Dongles to Users and User Groups
The myUTN-80 dongle server offers many features specially designed for dongle management, e.g. the unique "Port Key Control" function for releasing the USB interfaces of myUTN-80 for specific users or user groups (work groups, departments etc.). This is especially interesting for service providers who manage licensed software for their customers. They can manage and release dongles for various customers via a myUTN-80 dongle server without having to set up extra solutions for each customer.
Large Security Package for Dongles
The myUTN-80 dongle server offers many security functions especially for the utilization and administration of dongles. Users can encrypt the communication between dongle and network with one click. IT administrators can simply block unwanted USB devices, such as USB sticks, from being attached to myUTN-80, so that they cannot import unwanted data or malware into the network. Access protection is also part of this package. The dongle server chassis is lockable. In addition, the dongle server can be mounted on an optionally available rackmount kit for safe operation on a server rack.
Dongles in Virtualized Environments
Utilizing a myUTN-80 dongle server, the user's workstation need not possess a USB interface. The myUTN-80 dongle server offers independence from USB interfaces, making it a working option for utilizing dongles in server-based computing infrastructures and virtualized environments based on Citrix XEN, VMware, and Microsoft Hyper-V. The integration of USB dongles in such environments has been extremely difficult, if not impossible. The myUTN-80 dongle server makes this possible, including the full functional range, as it functions like a virtual cable extension across the network. Users can access dongles in this way and utilize them just as if they were locally attached.
System Requirements and Service
The myUTN-80 dongle server for Ethernet networks (10BaseT/100BaseTX) is compatible with Windows 32/64-bit versions (Windows 7, Server 2008, Vista, Server 2003, XP). Regular and free software updates, technical support, and a warranty of up to five years come with the myUTN-80 dongle server.
