Southampton, NY (I-Newswire) April 24, 2011 - Award-winning sculptor Dorothy Frankel has been chosen to exhibit five bronze sculptures at the Newark Peace Education Summit. The three-day conference focuses on peacemaking practices from around the world, May 13-15, 2011 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, New Jersey. Notable speakers at the event include His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Somaly Mam, Nobel Laureates and peace advocates from a wide cross section of cultures.

“My work is about peace, love, compassion so it’s a great honor to be chosen to display my hand sculptures at the Newark Peace Education Summit,” says Frankel. “Having such distinguished speakers and peace activists gathered together is an exciting moment.”

Frankel will display five bronze sculptures from her series of hands, all larger than life size: Connection, Peace, Love, Prayer Hands and Inner Peace. These sculptures embrace and express the complexities of human relationships. Each is a tribute to the inherent emotions that unite us, exalt us, and show us our commonality, our intrinsic bonds.

“My interest lies in images that lead to connection, hope and power of community. Connecting to oneself, another, animals or the environment,” Frankel continues. I create sculptures and installation that lend themselves to this concept of reflection, quiet, community, and the human need of belonging. Taking basic hand gestures (some sign language) creates engagement with others. On a larger monumental scale these sculptures create a community gathering place, adding warmth and peace to the urban setting.”
