(I-Newswire) November 13, 2009 - San Rafael, CA, November 13, 2009 – VMI Architecture has submitted a Statement of Qualifications to SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit) for design of their operations and maintenance facility to be located in Cloverdale, Windsor or Santa Rosa, CA. VMI Architecture, a mid-sized San Rafael firm, has teamed with IBI Group, a multi-national firm specializing in transportation and infrastructure projects such as the SMART OMF project. IBI will carry out work on this project out of their San Jose, CA offices. IBI Group’s depth of engineering talent along with VMI’s quality of service and hands-on reputation will ensure that the team is well balanced. The remaining Team Members are all Bay Area based firms with the majority based in Sonoma and Marin counties. The team has far exceeded the SMART goal of 13.5 % DBE participation by assembling a team with 56.5% DBE participation. The objective was to put together a team with enough depth to do a major project well, yet keep the majority of the work and design fees from this major project in the local economies of Sonoma, Marin and the surrounding Bay Area. In addition to VMI Architecture and IBI Group, the project team includes Miller Pacific Engineering Group, Royston Hanamoto Alley & Abey, ZFA Structural Engineers, Sierra Engineering Group, Belden Engineers, Silverman & Light, Rosen, Goldberg, Der & Lewitz, Green Valley Consulting Engineers, Symbios, Charles M. Salter & Associates, Dabri, Inc., Kate Keating Associates and Chandra Cerrito.
