San Jose Harvest Festival Offers Unique Black Friday Shopping

Share |

The San Jose Harvest Festival, happening November 25-27, is one of the largest indoor arts and craft shows on the West Coast, offering over 24,000 unique gifts, all of which are handmade in the United States.

San Mateo, California (I-Newswire) October 21, 2011 - This year, Black Friday shoppers have another option to waking up at the crack of dawn and braving hoards of people to buy gifts that are a dime a dozen. The San Jose Harvest Festival, which opens Black Friday and runs November 25-27 at the San Jose Convention Center, showcases over 24,000 handmade arts and crafts, with gifts ranging from jewelry, clothing, fine art and photography, specialty foods, toys, home décor and more, all under one roof. Attendees can meet the artists who create each item, get gifts personalized, and feel good about supporting vendors that only offer products made in the USA.

On Saturday, November 26th, celebrity broadcaster and film critic Jan Wahl will make a special appearance at the event, giving her cinematic expertise in two different lectures. At 11:30am, Jan will discuss “Fabulous Females in Film”, covering some of the legendary and wild women of the silver screen. The second lecture, “Holiday Highlights in Film”, will celebrate the holiday season and will take place at 12:30pm.

Adding to the entertainment this year is crowd favorite Tom Rigney and Flambeau, a band that blends American Roots styles into a completely original sound, mixing infectious grooves with deep musicality and spectacular solos.

As a family-friendly show, the Harvest Festival will bring in Scott Land Marionettes for a spectacular puppet show and will also feature KidZone featuring gingerbread cookie decorating from Gingerbread on the Go and jewelry making activities from Dragonfly Designs. Plus, the San Jose Glass Artist Alliance will return to host a stained glass ornament workshop where Harvest Festival patrons can learn the intricacies of glass art and, for a small fee to cover materials, create and take home their own ornament.

Harvest Festival exhibitor Georgia Bockoven, an accomplished author who has sold over 4 million books, will be participating in a book signing of her newest release “The Year Everything Changed,” and author Todd Borg, writer of the popular Owen McKenna mystery series, will also be on hand signing copies of his newest novel Tahoe Hijack.

The official charity of the show is Humane Society Silicon Valley, a non-profit organization committed to animal welfare in every facet. Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) will receive half of the proceeds from shopping bag sales and all of the proceeds from the bag and parcel check. Plus, anyone who brings a new toy, book or non-perishable food donation to support the AT&T Pioneers will receive a $2 off discount admission coupon.

Guests can enter to win fabulous prizes, such as an Apple iPad 2 or the grand prize hand-stitched Americana quilt. Visit the shows website at http://www.harvestfestival.com to obtain entry forms and instructions.
