Six days have come and gone and still no word, no sign of help. The moon is full, and the pale eeriness of the empty snow-covered slopes brings the thought of death that much closer. It seems as though all hope of being rescued is gone, but even that does not matter as long as the evidence gets back. I should have gone with him, but I know staying behind was the right thing to do. Jack will have a much better chance without dragging me along. Better one of us makes it back, than we both die trying. If only I had been a little more careful, I should have tested the rope first. Only an idiot would… Oh well, hindsight is always better. God, why did you send such a klutz?
I know Jack is stronger, and a skilled climber, and without me he should have made it by now. I do not understand why he is not back yet. Lord, give him the strength to make it back safely. I want to see my wife and baby.
The shrill distant cry of a wolf jerks me back to reality and the constant cold that eats at my bones. I will survive, I must survive, and the news of this discovery has to reach the outside world. Perhaps Jack’s attempt at reaching help has succeeded, and right now they are close to my rescue. Still, why has it taken so long? The world must have the truth.
