Salt Lake Schools Expands MusicGarage/Sony® - Sponsored Music Classes

Sony-sponsored Utah music producer and educator, Steve Auerbach gets Sony® Creative Software to sponsor music production classes with software site license donations to Salt Lake City School District for elective, after-school and evening classes.

(I-Newswire) September 21, 2010 - Salt Lake City, UT – Salt Lake City Community Education has added Highland High School to the list of schools offering Sony®-sponsored ACID Music Studio® classes through MusicGarage.

MusicGarage founder Steve Auerbach is a Sony-sponsored music producer since 2002 when he produced a CD with Grammy Award-winning producer; Douglas Spotted Eagle. The two re-mastered tracks by former Frank Zappa singer-guitarist, Ike Willis using Sony tools to produce the 2002 CD, Ike Willis: Selected Works on Auerbach’s Uwanna? Records label.

Auerbach, who was new to the Sony production tools, was struck by the quality, price and efficiency of Sony’s applications. Auerbach asked the media giant to sponsor public school classes with a donation of software site licenses to the Salt Lake City School District. Sony agreed, and since 2009 the media giant has donated some $10,000 in software for public school and non-profit use in Salt Lake City.

The Music Studio classes started last year at Northwest Middle School, a Title One school at 1700 North and 1700 West. Adults and youth learn how to use a personal computer for original song creation and multi-track recording in care curriculum elective, after-school and evening classes. Taught in the school’s computer labs, Auerbach combines group lessons with use of as many as 30 individual PC licenses for independent student work using headphones. Musicians and non-musicians compose, mix, and master CDs, MP3s or video soundtracks. Those who have never written a song or played an instrument can use Music Studio for all styles of music.

The theory and techniques taught apply to all modern recording and production hardware and software – for Mac or PC. Students may bring their laptops or use the computer lab PCs. For laptop users, Sony offers a free 30-day trial download installation of the $65 application. The year-round class is offered in six-week sessions on an on-going basis that can be repeated to reach individual goals.
