Move Consultant with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, Heather Evans, offer helpul hints for any parent who will have to deal to with their child adjusting to a new school.

Sacramento (I-Newswire) October 20, 2010 - There are some things about moving that we can’t overlook; switching the cable, the electricity and the phone- we pretty much have a handle on that. Though buried in the commotion that surrounds us for weeks before move day we tend to lose sight of our kids. Their needs are somehow squashed in the abyss of stress we find ourselves in.

In fact, it is often times so nerve-racking for the adults that we overlook the reality that our children are not only being uprooted from their home but they are changing schools as well. This does not have to be the end of the world for your children or their friends. You just need to take care and be cognizant of the needs of your kids, especially if you have more than one.

As Heather Evans, a move consultant for the award winning TWO MEN AND A TRUCK/ Sacramento location points out, “every child will react differently to leaving their school. If you’re child is popular and has many friends—the move will be tougher for them than a child who has little to no connections at school.”

In either case, there needs to be care and attention to the situation. Communication is the key. Talk with your child. Make a plan. Find out what’s most comfortable for your youngster when saying “good-bye”.

Heather recommends trying some of these tactics out. Remember these are not one size fits all solutions, so pick the ones that best fits you and your family.

A small “good-bye” party. Something simple. a planned date, time, and place for the kids to get together.

Have the child make a card for their teacher or friends.

Use index cards with your forwarding contact info.

Visit the new school before they leave the old school, try to meet the new teacher--- even see the new classroom.

Get a calendar of upcoming activities at the new school and let your child know you will be attending.

Make sure you can get this year’s class picture sent to your new home.

Be creative and realistic about how this change will affect your little ones and don’t loose sight of them in the hustle and bustle of moving. What’s most important is that you create memories they will cherish.
