Homebuilder holding drive through end of August to collect donations for Clark County School District students in at-risk schools

Henderson, Nevada (I-Newswire) August 18, 2011 - Ryland Homes celebrates Back-To-School with a special event at its ‘Inaugural School Supply Drive’ Saturday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Catania in Henderson. Through the end of the month, the homebuilder is working with the Clark County Schools District’s School-Community partnership program to collect school supply donations for at-risk students in Clark County. The public is invited to bring their donations to the event, enjoy refreshments and learn about the School-Community Partnership Program.

“There are 155 schools in the Clark County School District that have been identified as at-risk,” said Beverly Mason, assistant director of the district’s School-Community Partnership Program. “This represents 53 percent of the schools in our district and typically has between 75 and 100 percent of the students qualifying for the free lunch program. With many schools’ budgets cut up to 30 percent for the coming year, there is a great need for school supplies.”

Donations can be made at any Ryland Homes sales center through Wednesday, August 31st. Anyone visiting Ryland Homes during that time, whether or not they make a donation, can be entered into a drawing for a back-to-school laptop computer. Ryland Homes has sales centers in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Mountain’s Edge and Providence. For locations and directions, visit www.ryland.com/lasvegas.

Recommended donations include pencils, paper, scissors, glue sticks, pencil boxes, crayons, highlighters, erasers and tissues. Hygiene items including travel sized shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant and bar soap are also welcome.

“Growing up, the excitement we experienced on the first day of school with our new backpacks and supplies are those we will remember forever,” said Dana Rogers, President of Ryland Homes. “Every child deserves a happy and confident start to the new school year. This drive is the kick-off to Ryland Homes’ ongoing effort to help at-risk students in Clark County. During the year we will host clothing drives, shoe drives and food drives to help these deserving students in every way possible.”

Saturday's event, sponsored in part by Evergreen Recycling, will be held at Ryland’s Catania community in Henderson. Catania offers four single family plans that range in size from 1,626 to 2,169 square feet with prices starting in the mid $100s.

Another Ryland community, Jasmine, is located within the same gated neighborhood as Catania and showcases a collection of large two-story townhomes ranging in size from 1,479 to 1,682 square feet. Pricing at Jasmine starts in the low $100s. Both Catania and Jasmine residents enjoy a pool, spa and spacious clubhouse they can reserve for private parties.

One block North of Catania and Jasmine is Ryland Homes’ Cordova Estates collection. Cordova Estates offers three single family home designs ranging in size from 2,400 to 3,039 square feet in single and two-story plans. Many of the flexible floor plans offer up to six bedrooms, up to three baths and up to a three-car garage option. Pricing starts in the mid $200s.

Every residence in Jasmine, Cordova Estates and Catania is Energy Star qualified and includes energy efficient air conditioning systems, low-E windows, vinyl window frames and Radiant Heat Barriers inside each roof.

“Whether or not you make a donation, this is a great opportunity to bring the family, learn about the School-Community partnership program and see some beautiful new homes,” said Rogers.

Sales offices at Ryland Homes’ 12 Southern Nevada communities are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and noon to 6 p.m. Mondays. To visit Catania and Jasmine, take the I-15 South to St. Rose Parkway and head East on St. Rose. Turn North on Bermuda Road and East on Liberty Heights to the community at the end of the street.
