San Francisco Bay Bombers coach and General Manager, Jim Fitzpatrick, hopes to break the record for the largest "I Play Clean" campaign pledge event. The campaign's goal is to end steroid abuse among young athletes.

South San Francisco, CA (I-Newswire) July 8, 2011 - The coach and General Manager of the current World Champions San Francisco Bay Bombers professional Roller Derby team, Jim Fitzpatrick, will hosting his first "I Play Clean" pledge event at Tops Burger and Grill in San Mateo, CA. The pledge is for youths to commit to avoiding using illegal steroids. Over the past few years a number of students and professional and former professional athletes have taken the pledge. Fitzpatrick stated, "We're hoping to make this their largest pledge event so far by attracting as many of the neighborhood kids to the event as possible. We also want to get the word out to their coaches, teachers, family and friends as well about the Butkus Foundation's campaign to end steroid abuse among young athletes. We're very fortunate at this time our league does not have problems with players using illegal steroids. Pro athletes are blessed with the opportunity to participate and earn a living in a sport they love so they should be good role models to today's youth"

Those attending will also be able to catch Fitzpatrick's team on a big screen TV when KOFY TV20 airs one of the Bombers' recent games that day from 11am to noon. Fitzpatrick has also arranged with a local car club to have a number of classic cars on display outside in the parking lot during the event.

Tops Burger and Grill restaurant is located on the east side of HWY 101 at 450 South Norfolk Street in San Mateo, CA (650) 344-8679

The Butkus Foundation's campaign's mission statement is "To educate and encourage high school students to make the right choice of playing clean – that is, training hard, eating well and playing with attitude, instead of resorting to illegal and dangerous steroids and performance enhancing products."
