In a public forum, GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott motivated interested voters who gathered Monday night to hear him speak and answer questions on key political issues, during his appearance in Winter Haven, Florida.

(I-Newswire) June 15, 2010 - Before a curious crowd that gathered at the Best Western - Admiral's Inn, Rick Scott fielded questions from the audience on such subjects as off-shore oil drilling, Florida's economy, State sovereignty, gun owner rights, environmental issues and the one that generated an enthusiastic response from the crowd . . . illegal immigration.

Attendees arrived early to be assured a seat in the Admiral's Inn's upstairs banquet room, for Mr. Scott's first Central Florida public appearance.

The forum, hosted by the Republican Club of East Polk County, began promptly at 7:15, with a presentation of the flags by Boy Scout Troop 515 of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Winter Haven. The event was emceed by Melony Bell, former mayor of Fort Meade and current candidate for the Board of Polk County Commissioners, District 2. Michéle Van Dorn, Vice President of the Republican Club of East Polk County, lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Reverend Fred Jeans delivered the Invocation. The question and answer session was orderly moderated by Eric Allen, attorney and past chairman of the Polk County Republican Executive Committee. Mr. Scott clearly and succinctly responded to questions for approximately 30 minutes before delivering closing remarks.

Mr. Scott remained after the forum to speak directly with members of the audience, shake hands and pose for photos. The most impressive photo taken was that with members of Boy Scout Troop 515. Mr. Scott was an Eagle Scout in his youth and stated that he has a special place in his heart for the Boy Scouts of America.

Many of those who attended Monday night's forum arrived with an open, uncommitted mind and left energized carrying with them Rick Scott bumper stickers, window decals and yard signs. By all appearances, the crowd liked what it heard from Mr. Scott and left the forum as Rick Scott supporters.
