Hybrid Air and Water Package Unit: Rheem unveiled its new commercial Hybrid Air and Water Package Unit, which is the only product in the industry leveraging heat recovery water heating technology. Rheem identified full service restaurants as the primary beneficiary of this new product; 46 percent of a full service restaurant’s operating cost is due to HVAC and water expenses (source: Environmental Protection Agency). The Hybrid Air and Water Package Unit works by switching over from a refrigerant to air system to a refrigerant to water system when there is a demand for air conditioning and hot water. Warm air transfers its heat to the refrigerant as in a normal cooling cycle. Then, the heat of the refrigerant is transferred to the water instead of the outside environment as in a normal air conditioning cycle, greatly increasing the efficiency of the air conditioners in use. Depending on water usage and hot water fuel type, Rheem anticipates that full service restaurants can reap substantial annual savings when implementing the Hybrid Air and Water Package.
