Revolution MMA in Benton, AR Hosts Women's Self Defense Cinic

Revolution MMA, located in Benton, AR was honored to have almost 40 girls from First Baptist Church in Benton come for a women's self defense clinic!

Revolution MMA, Benton, Arkansas' most well established self defense academy, was honored to host the teen girls from First Baptist Church in Benton, AR for a self defense clinic this past weekend. Their women's seminar follows a seminar that Revolution MMA hosted for the teen boys ministry last year. With just under 40 girls in attendance, the seminar was a huge success!

Revolution MMA recognizes the need for self defense for teens, for girls in particular, and is committed to helping local girls stay safe and build confidence through Martial Arts training, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in particular. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art that allows someone who is smaller and weaker to defeat a larger, stronger opponent. This happens to be the perfect Martial Art for women seeking true self defense skills.

In addition to the common bullying that occurs at school and online, girls also face the risk of predatory assault, especially as they prepare to enter college. According to the statistics on RAINN.org, a predatory assault occurs in the United States every 2 minutes, with 44% of victims being under 18 and 80% being under 30. With these grave statistics, the staff at Revolution MMA in Benton aimed to arm these young girls with the skills and confidence needed to defend themselves.

The seminar focused on the most common scenarios that a young girl can face, and allowed the girls to practice valuable techniques that will help them stay safe. The girls got to practice techniques both standing and on the ground, so that they are well prepared. In addition, Coach Jory spent some time talking about the importance of being aware of one's surrounding and body language of others. With 2/3 of predatory assaults occurring by someone known to the victim, it is important girls learn to be aware of their surroundings and remain guarded.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Coach Jory gave the girls a handout of all of the techniques they learned, so that they could go home and continue to practice and refine the techniques.

Of those instructing the clinic were the owners of Revolution MMA, Jory and Abby Malone, as well as Instructor Josh Norris and Jr. Instructor Ashley Norris. Jory Malone is a No Gi World Champion and assists with the Benton High School Wrestling Team. Coach Abby Malone just got back from the Masters World Championships, where she claimed gold in both of her divisions, without a point scored on her. The instructors at Revolution MMA have over 40 years combined Martial Arts experience and enjoy sharing their knowledge with the local community.
