Renaissance Academy K-12 private school's Wildcats boys' basketball team reaches California State finals for its second time.
The "Wildcats" boys' basketball team, from K-12 private school Renaissance Academy in Altadena, CA, ranked second in this year's Division V category of the California Interscholastic Federation's (CIF's) boys' basketball season which ended last week. This marks the fifth year that the Wildcats have won the CIF's Southern California Division V Championship and the second time they have made it to Sacramento for the statewide finals.
"The Wildcats are a great source of pride for our school," says Sandra Staffer, Renaissance's Executive Director. "Although academic achievement is always our first priority, success in athletics is an additional way to foster a student's confidence, competence and ability to operate as a team member."
Led by Coach Sid Cooke and team captains Marquise Mosley and K.J. Okmanas, the Wildcats charged into the State finals on a 12-game winning streak including winning both the highly-regarded Artesia and Nogales boys' basketball tournaments. By the end of the season, the Wildcats had won 25 of 32 games.
"We play against schools with a much larger student body," adds Staffer. "Making it to the State finals is a true David and Goliath story. Next year, we will be the California State champions!"
