Registration Open for 1st Cancer Cachexia Conference in Boston, MA on September 21-23, 2012

We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the first Cancer Cachexia Conference entitled, “Cancer Cachexia: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Approaches” to be held in Boston, USA on September 21-23, 2012, co-hosted by The Oh

Boston, MA (I-Newswire) May 26, 2012 - The conference will gather more than 150 international researchers and clinicians to attend educational sessions developed around the topic of cancer cachexia.

Day one of the conference will cover “Clinical Manifestations of Cancer Cachexia” and “Mechanisms of Muscle Wasting in Cancer Cachexia”. Day two will cover the “Involvement of Non-Muscle Tissue in Cancer Cachexia” and “Therapeutic Targets and Clinical Trials in Cancer Cachexia”.

The educational learning objectives to be achieved by means of this conference are the following: • Clearly communicate to the cancer community the clinical manifestations of cancer cachexia • Describe the basic mechanisms of skeletal and cardiac muscle wasting in cancer • Determine the common mechanisms between cancer and other cachexia promoting conditions • Explain the significance of the involvement of non-muscle tissue in cancer cachexia • Review optimal strategies for therapeutic targets and clinical trials in treating cancer cachexia.

To register, reserve a hotel room, submit an abstract or view the scientific program, please click the following link https://ccme.osu.edu/ConferenceDetail.aspx?ID=1156.

About Cachexia:
Cachexia is a complex metabolic syndrome associated with underlying illness and characterized by extreme weight loss. Cachexia is common and occurs in over 50% of cancer patients and 90% of patients with pancreatic cancer. It represents a significant adverse health care issue and challenge for an increasing number of patients, their relatives and the medical teams who care for them. Active research is being developed in this field and although some progress has been made in the clinic, currently, cachexia in cancer patients remains untreatable.

Cachexia also affects patients with a wide range of chronic medical conditions such as AIDS, cancer, chronic heart failure, chronic lung disease, liver cirrhosis, renal failure, rheumatoid arthritis, and sepsis. Its disease process involves a complex interaction between the disease and the body.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Ohio State University is proud of its designation by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As one of only 41 designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is dedicated to the creation of knowledge in laboratory, clinical and population-based cancer research. This research stems from focused programs that include cancer control, experimental therapeutics, innate immunity, molecular biology and cancer genetics, molecular carcinogenesis, and viral oncology. These discoveries are applied to develop more effective approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis and therapies – providing tomorrow’s standard of care today. The center's ultimate goal is to meet the Healthy People 2010 objective of reducing cancer incidence, reducing cancer mortality and morbidity, and improving the quality of life.

SCWD
