5th Annual 5K/10K & Half Marathon Run/Walk Raises Awareness, Funds for Youth Programs

Palo Alto, CA (I-Newswire) September 30, 2011 - PALO ALTO, CA – Palo Alto Family YMCA announced today that registration for its 5th annual Marsh Madness 5K/10K and inaugural half marathon run/walk is now open for all ages at www.marshmadnessrun.net. Taking place at Palo Alto Baylands on Saturday, Oct. 29, the health and fitness event, co-sponsored by Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, raises funds and promotes community awareness to create a healthy community. Marsh Madness is part of the Palo Alto Grand Prix Series and is a professionally timed event on a USA Track and Field certified course.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our fifth year bringing Marsh Madness to the community,” said Nettie Azoulay, senior program director of healthy lifestyles at the Y. “Marsh Madness is a very important fitness fundraising event for both the Y and for young people in our community. We are excited to partner with other health organizations to help people make healthier choices. Monies raised through sponsorships and race fees will support a variety of youth community programs that help promote healthier lifestyles.”

The event begins at 8:30 a.m. with the inaugural half marathon, followed by the 10K beginning at 9a.m., the 5K run starting at 9:20a.m., and the 5K walk beginning at 9:25 a.m. After the event, participants are invited to stay for the post-race expo, which includes live music by Kenny Blue Ray Band, food and beverages, and an awards ceremony for top winners.
