Lawrence Lawton, an ex-con with a passion for helping teens and young adults meets with members of Congress. Lawton tells kids how he lost time, his family, friends and his freedom; and that it just wasn't worth it.





















(I-Newswire) January 27, 2010 - January 26, 2010 - With a passion for helping teens and young adults, ex-con Lawrence Lawton will be meeting today and tomorrow in Washington DC with members of the House Sub Committee on Crime. Lawton hopes to have his message and successful program of reducing juvenile crime to be shared across the United States.

At the encouragement of his hometown representative Congressman Bill Posey, Lawton has scheduled meeting with members of the House Sub Committee on Crime including Congressman Rooney (Florida), Gohmert (Texas), Lungren (CA), Poe (Texas) and Wasserman-Schultz (Florida). The House Subcommittee on Crime has jurisdiction over Federal Criminal Code, drug enforcement, sentencing, parole and pardons, internal and homeland security, Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, prisons, criminal law enforcement, and other appropriate matters as referred by the chairman, and relevant oversight. The Chairman of this subcommittee is Congressman Scott (D) from the State of Virginia.

While in Washington DC, Mr. Lawton will also meet with Dennis Greenhouse, Director of the Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) of the US Department of Justice. The CCDO is charged with working with partners to keep communities safe, enhance existing programs, and build successful community coalitions. The CCDO mission is to work with local communities to design strategies for deterring crime, promoting economic growth, and enhancing quality of life.

Lawton’s Reality Check Program helps teens and young adults to become productive members of society and avoid the pitfalls that will send them to prison. Lawrence Lawton spent 11 years in Federal prisons and now dedicates his life to helping teens and young adults.
