Ranken Technical College to Host Movie Screening and Manufacturing Job Fair

"American Made Movie" Highlights Challenges for the Manufacturing Industry in Important Documentary

St. Louis, Missouri (I-Newswire) October 25, 2013 - Ranken Technical College will host a screening of "American Made Movie" on Tuesday, October 29th, in recognition of National Manufacturing Month.

As hiring in the skilled manufacturing sector remains strong (currently eight job opportunities for every student Ranken graduates) the College will also host a mini manufacturing-related job fair, featuring companies such as Ehrhardt Tool & Machine Co, Inc., Heizer Aerospace, Hellebusch Tool & Die, Inc., Homeyer Precision Manufacturing, Hydromat and others.

American Made Movie is a documentary film examining the factors contributing to the decline of the American manufacturing workforce and the integral role consumerism may play in getting the economy back on track. The film looks back on the glory days of U.S. manufacturing when there was a balanced relationship between the goods produced and the goods consumed. The film also illustrates how technology and globalization transformed the competitive landscape for companies doing business in America, as well as overseas.

By revealing the successes of companies that have prospered without adopting the practices of their competitors, American Made Movie shows the positive impact manufacturing jobs have on national and local economies, aiding them in the face of great challenges. The livelihood of our country depends on understanding how we can maintain the American Dream while competing in a global economy.

The movie will screen at 11:30 a.m. in Staley Auditorium and has a running time of 84 minutes. The mini job fair will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Mary Ann Lee Technology Center, 4401 Page Blvd, St Louis, Mo., 63113. Employers will be available for interviews, as will Ranken students and administration. Ranken Board Chair Ed Monser (President and COO, Emerson) and College President Stan Shoun will address the audience before the film. Photographers and camera operators welcome.

The movie screening is free, but reservations to attend required; register online at ranken.edu.
