Public Health Organization Leases at Berger's 50 Park Place
Partnership for Maternal and Child Health Establishes HQ at Newark Property
Newark, NJ (I-Newswire) March 4, 2013 - The Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey has joined the tenant roster at The Berger Organization's Robert Treat Center, 50 Park Place in Newark. The non-profit public health organization leased 5,400 square feet for its headquarters at the 100,000-square-foot, 15-story office tower.
The Partnership's mission is to improve the health and well-being of women, children and families by increasing availability of and access to quality, cost-effective healthcare. The organization launched operations in mid-2012 following the merger of three non-profits with roots dating back to 1992. Funded through private foundations, the New Jersey Department of Health and Department of Children and Families, corporations and individual donors, the organization employs more than 130 individuals.
In addition to the headquarters operation, six additional community sites, a governing body comprised of 24 member hospitals, clinicians and consumers enable the organization to provide services in nine counties. "We oversee 40 different grant programs focused on a range of health issues, from fatherhood to the prevention of perinatal addiction and postpartum depression," explained Marijane Lundt, co-executive director. "Our board felt strongly that we maintain a presence in Newark, which is a high-need community."
Robert Treat Center provided a perfect fit, according to Ilise Zimmerman, also co-executive director for the Partnership. "This property is located near public transportation and major highways, which makes it easy for Trustees and employees to get here," she said. "Beyond that, The Berger Organization has been flexible and responsive throughout the lease process, considering the complexity of our move and the short time frame."
Christian Benedetto, Jr. of Hopkins Sampson & Brown Real Estate Advisory Services, LLC, represented the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey in negotiating its multi-year lease at Robert Treat Center. Brendan Berger, vice president of The Berger Organization, served as in-house representative in the transaction.
Built in 1916 and completely renovated in 2001, Robert Treat Center is adjacent to the Berger-owned, 176-room Best Western Robert Treat Hotel. It sits within Newark's cultural, dining and entertainment hub, proximate to the city's transportation network including Newark Penn Station, PATH light rail, and the Broad Street Station. Major tenants include the Associated Press, the City of Newark, and the State of New Jersey.
"With its location and amenities, 50 Park Place continues to attract a range of organizations, including non-profits like the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey," Berger noted. "We look forward to supporting our newest tenant as it continues to serve such a vital need in the regional community."
In addition to Robert Treat Center, The Berger Organization's Newark portfolio includes landmark office buildings at 60 Park Place, 10 Park Place and 570 Broad Street. Additionally, the Griffith and Hahne buildings at 605 and 609 Broad Street are both slated for mixed-use redevelopment.
