Proud to Serve Those Who Serve Smith & Bevill Announce Discount for Active Members of the Military.
To pay homage to its founders, Smith & Bevill announced that it will offer a 10% discount to active members of the armed force.
Beaverton, OR (I-Newswire) August 19, 2013 - Prior to founding Smith's Jewelry in Beaverton, Or, Larry Smith trained as a watchmaker under the Civilian Conservation Corps as a high school student. When he went into the Army after high school he was promoted to Tech Sergeant while he was in boot camp because of his watch repair skills. And with those new stripes he was shipped to Europe during WWII to drive truck and repair watches in General George Patton's Division. He was there when Patton's army met the Russians in Austria.
In 1957 Larry founded the jewelry store where he worked as owner and watchmaker until he was joined by US Navy aircrew veteran Bill Bevill in 1974. They became partners in 1976 and the name was changed to Smith & Bevill Jewelers. They worked together until 1989 when Larry retired and sold his interest in the store. The two veterans and watchmakers became great friends and partners creating a business whose' foundation is based on integrity, excellence and a passion for precision.
"We are proud of our Dad's service", says Gina Bevill. "During his tour of duty in the Navy he was selected for special duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hornet for the recovery operation in the South Pacific of Apollo 11. Dad is very humbled to have been part of such an historic event. He especially enjoys showing the Original Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. The watch Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins wore on the moon in 1969. It is still available today as it was then."
"We feel it's important to give back to the men and women who serve our country. To honor our roots we are offering a 10% discount to active members of the military- just bring your ID. " says Bill.
