"Print Week 2014" Celebrated at Apeejay Stya University


•Print Week witnesses participation from top journalists and professionals from the print & publication industry •The key highlight was a Special Lecture on 'The AAP Effect'

New Delhi (I-Newswire) February 16, 2014 - Commemorating the contribution of the print industry, the School of Journalism & Mass Communication at the Apeejay Stya University (ASU) celebrated its annual event, 'Print Week 2014' at ASU Campus, Sohna recently. Renowned media professionals including Narayani Ganesh, Associate Editor (TOI), Pamela Philipose, Editor-in-Chief (Women's Feature Services), Renu Agal, Commissioning Editor, Penguin Books India, and Sidharth Vardarajan, former editor of The Hindu participated in the event.

The 5-day long event, inaugurated by Ms. Narayani Ganesh was focused at revisiting various developments of the print media at different stages along with discussions on the important role that the print media has been playing to shape the nation and the world at large. This second edition of Print Week was also a space for thinkers and intellectuals to ponder upon and discuss about various contemporary issues.

Some of the major attractions of the event were lectures on 'Gender and Journalism' and 'The AAP Effect' by Pamela Philipose and Siddarth Varadarajan respectively. Where as Renu Agal talked about the 'state of book publishing in India'.

Inaugurating the Print Week, Prof. (Dr.) K.K. Dwivedi, Vice Chancellor, Apeejay Stya University, said: "Indian print media has not looked back since the Britishers launched the first major newspaper in India-The Bengal Gazette, by James August Hickey in 1780. Events such as the print week help our students trace the journey and the impact of the print media over all these centuries".

Sharing her experiences, Ms. Narayani Ganesh said, "Newspapers have recently taken on a crucial role in creating awareness on issues such as Climate Change, Pollution and Environmental Hazards". While interacting with the students, she emphasized that students must respect each medium and leverage its potential to the fullest.

Other highlights of the event were daily quiz competitions, a poster design competition and cartoon making competition, along with the book launch of upcoming author Pankaj Dubey, named 'WHAT A LOSER!"

This exciting event was conceptualized by Prof. Ashok Ogra, Director, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication and Prof. Pervaiz Alam, Dean, School of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASU).
