Vietnam (1969), Bob and his platoon walked into an ambush. When a member of his unit was hit with fire from an AK-47, Bob rushed to the aid to his fallen comrade; while doing so, he stepped on and detonated an 82mm mortar round booby-trap, designed to destroy tanks with a 30 yard radius kill zone. Both of Bob’s legs were lost during the ordeal.

My legs went one way, and my life went another.
