Respite Care Association of Wisconsin Making a Difference throughout the State

In an effort to make finding qualified in-home respite care providers in Wisconsin easier, the Respite Care Association of Wisconsin has created an online training course and database.

Respite Care Association of Wisconsin (RCAW) has been supporting and advocating for quality systems of respite care for Wisconsin families since 1987.  There programs focus on abuse prevention and respite care.  In the last few years, they have developed an online database and training course to continue to fulfill their mission of promoting, supporting and expanding quality statewide respite care across the lifespan.

Respite Care may be a foreign term to some but it is one that is well-known and essential to families and caregivers of children and adults with disabilities. It is a temporary relief for caregivers and families who are caring for someone who has a disability or other specials needs such as chronic or terminal illness.

The RCAW is offering a free online training for respite care providers or those who would like to become care providers. The hope is to create a “Caring Network” of highly trained respite care providers who will have the required skills to provide in-home respite care for individuals with a variety of disabilities.

Along with the free training course is an online database for families to use to find qualified respite care providers.  The caregivers listed on the database have all completed training and a background check, giving family members peace of mind with regards to who is taking care of their loved one.

“We found that many people struggle with finding qualified, trained respite care providers who will have the required skills to provide in-home respite care for individuals with a variety of disabilities, including highly challenging behaviors, and basic medical and personal care needs,” stated Jim Schroeder, Executive Director for Respite Care Association of Wisconsin. “Our hope is to solve that problem with this online training course and database.”
