"Long Plastic Hallway," New Fiction About the Music Business

Longtime Songwriter Author Offers Sample Excerpt for Readers on BookDaily

The title of the book comes from a famous quote about the music business by Hunter S. Thompson and  the story follows the wild ride of Ellis McClure from busker to rising star in the L.A. music scene. When he and two buddies, Bax and Chloe, run out of gas on the way to California, Ellis gets dragged into playing on the street to earn a quick buck. After reaching L.A, all three new college grads get caught up in a world of "sex, drugs and rock'n roll."  On the journey, this new generation faces the age-old human issues: fear, love, insecurity, rejection. Author Joyce V. Harrison, who works as a freelance writer, is a songwriter/publisher member of ASCAP and a lifetime voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). She has been involved in music for decades and experienced first-hand the pitfalls of this tough business where failure is common and success rare. She has dedicated the book to “all of us songwriters,” because, she says, “Most of us struggle to make a living in music and only a few have the luxury of not needing a day job.”

“Long Plastic Hallway” is the author’s second work of fiction. Her first, “Slag,” published in 2013, is a flashback to the 1950s, set in a remote Northern Canadian mining town. Both books can be found on Amazon in paperback as well as Kindle versions.
