International Photography Contest By Akshaya Patra - Click a Smile 2014!

Click a Smile, the annual international photography competition organised by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, is back.

Click a Smile, the annual international photography competition organised by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, is back! After its grand success last year, Click a Smile 2014 is poised to exceed all expectations. The contest launching on November 20th will end by December 22nd, 2014, centres on the joy and innocence of youth that can be seen through a child's smile.

To participate in the competition, amateur or professional photographers must send in their best three images of a smiling child (or children) from anywhere in the world. The children can be photographed in any setting from their home, school, neighbourhood or playground.


There is also no age limit or restrictions of nationality to take part in this competition. However the photographs will have to be taken in a digital JPEG format capable of being transferred to a computer. The images should be under 4 MB in size with a minimum resolution of 800 pixels.
The shortlisted images will be judged by a panel of industry experts, who will then select the top three winners. The images will be judged on criteria like content, composition, sensitivity, creativity and style. The top three winners will each be granted a certificate, trophy and surprise gift.

Both colour as well as black and white images will be eligible for entry to the competition; however composite images will be not be permitted. With regard to editing the images, minor adjustments in levels, curves, colour saturation and contrast is permitted, as well as minor clean ups like dust spots etc.

Last year, Click a Smile 2013 saw over 700 entries from 7 countries, from which three winners, six consolation prizes and two Viewer's Choice recipients were selected. The competition was judged by renowned photographer D. Radhakrishnan Nair from Bangalore.

First place went to Moni Sankar Das for the photograph 'Smiling', second place to Syed Ali Seyedi for his 'The hole of Happyness' and third place to Kaushik Majumder for his 'Before Fest'. Aside from these the six consolation prizes went to Suman Bhattacharyya's photograph 'Blooming Buds', Raghu Ranjan Sarkar's photograph 'Colourful Buds', Nyugen Dong's 'Happyness with Rain', Soumalya Kumar De's 'Keep smiling, the world needs beautiful things', Jayanta Roy's 'My Friends' and Kumar Bishwajit's 'Embracing the Beauty of Autumn'.

The Viewer's Choice award winners were selected by opening up the competition to the fans via social media where they voted for their favourites. The winners in this category were 'Let your smile change the world' by Kartikey Brahmkshatriya and 'Building Blocks' by Arnab Adak. The winning photographs can be viewed from Akshaya Patra's Facebook album.

The top 40 photographs selected from all the entries of Click a Smile 2013 were also showcased alongside a thematic collection of photographs of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, in a photo exhibition titled 'A Wall of Hope and Joy' held at the 'Vismaya' Rangoli Art Gallery, Bengaluru.
