Cancork Flooring is excited to announce that is has brought out a new range of printed cork flooring. The five differently styled motifs have been designed exclusively for Forna. The spokeswoman for Forna said in a statement; “We are very excited to be working with Swiss flooring products. The Swiss manufacturers are some of the best in the world when it comes to quality and off-gassing or VOC content. Our traditional Forna products are considered ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’ yet the Swiss Printed Cork’s VOC content is as much as 40% lower than our traditional patterns”. This means that while Swiss Printed Cork is a bit tougher and less easily damaged, it still maintains all of the great qualities of cork-its warmth, and pliability making it easy on the joints, just like the traditional cork flooring we are used to.

One of the main concerns in the case of printed flooring products is that foil applications eventually run the risk of delamination. Cancork flooring uses The Direct Print method which means that the cork runs through a direct print machine which directly transfers the pattern onto the cork. It is then left to dry, and then receives 3 coats of water based polyurethane.

Forna Cork Flooring products are made to only the highest European Air Quality Standards, which means it is free of adhesives such as urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde resins which are illegal in Europe. These standards are far stricter than US regulations. Additionally, Forna uses only German made water based polyurethanes and adhesives which are also formaldehyde free. These water based polyurethanes make for the unique elasticity of its cork flooring.

Another difference you will find in Forna Cork Flooring is that it moves away from the trend of adding anti-microbial material to cork floor. This is because it is a controversial formula, and Forna has avoided it as it is not possible to produce such a formula that will stand to EU health standards.

With all of the painstaking research that has gone into creating this unique and carefully designed cork flooring, one would expect to pay high prices to have them in their homes or offices. Forna’s spokeswoman argues on the contrary: “Because Printed Cork is a specialty item in a specialty category, it carries a premium price tag. Forna does not set an arbitrarily high price for a product just to make a hefty profit. Forna sets what it feels its products are worth based on production costs. The Printed Cork has been imported from one of the most expensive manufacturing countries in the world – Switzerland. Forna’s pricing is significantly lower when compared to other Direct Print cork products on the market yet when compared to the prices of our traditional cork floors the Printed Cork appears to much more expensive. I guess the law of relativity is alive and well in the flooring industry!”
