Online, April 29, 2014 (Newswire.com) - The calls, delivered under the guise of an automated survey, reportedly asked voters whether or not they would prefer to vote for "an Asian business man", or "an African American swim-team mom", references to the two candidates vying for the Democratic State House of Representatives seat this primary season, Tim Hur and Renita Hamilton.
"We've received a number of calls from angry constituents in this district. They're mortified that anyone would think that such an obvious attempt to throw race into this primary election, would go over well with the voters here", says Patricia Wilson-Smith, Executive Director of BWEL. "We're interested in having an honest dialogue about who is best suited to represent us in Georgia's 105th District. The message being delivered is racist as well as misogynistic - we don't care who is responsible for it, the women I know in this district are not willing to stand for it."
BWEL is planning a rally and press conference for this Thursday, May1st at Rhodes Jordan Park to protest the use of the racially-insensitive phone messages, and to call for an end to the questionable campaign tactics they claim have been aimed squarely at Renita Hamilton during this primary campaign. Both Hamilton and Hur qualified on March 06, 2014 to run for Georgia State House of Representative District 105 Seat.
