McVitie’s today announces the lucky winner of their nationwide ‘reality biscuit’ competition – the search to find the topping or ingredients that biscuit fans most want to see in a Digestive Biscuit. 71 year old Vera Grainger of Currock Park Avenue in Carlisle had a winning idea to create the ultimate chocolate digestives – Caribbean style. Her winning idea scooped the top prize in the reality biscuits competition - a case of her very own biscuits created by McVitie’s complete with bespoke ‘Vera Grainger’ packaging.
(I-Newswire) - The winning entry that caught the judges’ attention says simply: ‘Caribbean chocolate digestive containing pieces of ginger, sultanas or currants - and a taste of the sun’.
Vera dreamt up the idea idyllic beach scene one rainy afternoon in her Carlisle home over a cup of tea and a Digestive Biscuit. Her dream of the Caribbean even stretched to her choice of biscuit ingredients which she believes will complement each other perfectly and offer an exciting twist to the nation’s favourite digestive.
McVitie’s were inundated with hundreds of entries following the series of regional advertisements which urged creative munchers to send in their ideas for a variation on a traditional Chocolate Digestive. Some of the more alternative entries included ‘mushroom and fishpaste’ and apple pie and custard’.
Liz Ashdown of McVitie’s said ‘Vera’s entry appealed to the judges because of its delicious sounding description and images of idyllic beach scenes that it conjured up. We can’t wait to taste the final version.’
McVities was also delighted to see that one of the most popular entries was for White Chocolate Digestives which the biscuit makers have in fact been creating for several months and are now available as a Limited Edition in all good supermarkets at a recommended retail price of £1.15 for 300g.
