(I-Newswire) - Dell Computer ( DELL ) announced today that it plans on using Nvidia ( NVDA ) chips in desktop computers. The extremely powerful NVDA chips already facilitate extraordinary graphics in state of the art video consoles like the X-Box from Microsoft ( MSFT ) and the new Playstation offered by Sony ( SNE ), and DELL wants to exploit the NVDA power for gamers on PCs as well.
This step should come as no surprise. The high intensity graphics in new video games require extremely powerful chipsets, and NVDA is a leader in this industry. The questions that are being raised however surround the competitive pressures that this move will put on industry giant Intel ( INTC ) going forward. INTC considered its main competitor to be Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD ) for years, but there may be a new Sheriff in town, and his name is Nvidia!
We consider this move to be extremely bold and an aggressive one in the face of INTC. Clearly DELL wants to set this as a president to offering video game related PCs to its gaming customers, but this move may soon become a transition from largely INTC chips to more efficient NVDA chips for more demanding users who are looking for more powerful computers. Clearly INTC will try to use its muscle to influence DELL against doing this, but that may not be enough in the long run.
We are bullish on NVDA as a result of this news and because of the expected demand for the new video game consoles, which are coming to market soon. We would also consider this to be relatively bearish for INTC at this time.
Again, this is the beauty of a capitalistic economy. In the end, the winners should always be the best product offered at the best price. In this case we consider that to be NVDA and we would be interested buyers of this stock.
