Motorcycle ride in Myrtle Beach will benefit local charity that assists families affected by domestic violence

South Carolina ranks sixth in the nation for numbers of women killed by men according to South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

(I-Newswire) - According to the American Institute on Domestic Violence, every 12 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband or boyfriend.  Domestic violence is the single largest cause of injury to women in the United States – over mugging, automobile accidents and rape, combined. ( NCADV 2003 )  Victims in abusive relationships come from all races and socio-economic backgrounds.  And although the frequency of domestic abuse is higher for women, men can also be targeted.  According to the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, 1.5 million women and 834,700 men are assaulted by a domestic partner each year.  On January 5th, 2008, a motorcycle ride starting at B&M Custom Cycles will raise money for the charitable organization CASA, or Citizens Against Spouse Abuse, a non-profit organization helping families affected by domestic violence.

The 1st Annual RideMyrtleBeach.com Polar Bear Dice Run is Saturday, January 5th, 2008.  It begins at B&M Custom Cycles at 508 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, across from the post office.  Registration is at B&M Custom Cycles from 10 AM until all kickstands go up at 11 AM.  A $20 donation per rider and $10 donation per passenger entitles you to complimentary food, drink specials and a 10% discount at B&M Custom Cycles and Wimmer Cycles.  You’ll also have a chance to roll the dice at each stop. Roll one is at The Beaver Bar in Murrells Inlet.  Roll two will be at Island Bar South in Pawleys Island.  The next roll will be in Murrells Inlet at Wimmer Cycles and roll 4 is at Island Bar & Grill in Surfside Beach.  The high and low rolls each get 25% of the money raised and 50% of the funds go to help CASA, Citizens Against Spouse Abuse.

CASA is a program of services for families in crisis in Horry and Georgetown Counties in South Carolina.  Their goal is to break the cycle of violence by offering help to all members of the family, and by educating the community about the serious and costly nature of the problem of domestic violence.  The purpose of CASA is to provide emergency safe shelter, counseling and support for abused women and children. All CASA services are free.  Their “crisis line” can be reached at ( 843 ) 448-6206.
