Date Line – October 14th Hastings 941st Re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings
The 941st anniversary of the Battle of Hastings will see some crew and cast for the movie 1066 come together at Battle just outside Hastings (UK).
(I-Newswire) - This coming Saturday and Sunday October 13th & 14th 2007 ( Battle Weekend ) will be the 941st commemoration of the Battle of Hastings, the most famous date in English history. On October 14th 1066 Duke William of Normandy’s invading army defeated the English 7 miles from Hastings, East Sussex – each year English Heritage hosts a re-enactment of that fateful day at the very place it happened – Battle Abbey. The abbey itself is now a ruin, but was built on the site of the battle by the victor, Duke William, the altar is said to have been placed on the spot where Harold died.
As the movie 1066 is now in development, several members of the production team will be there, as will Mark Lester ( Oliver ) cast as King Harold and Ian Whyte ( Alien V Predator ) King Hardrada.
Helen Hollick co-scriptwriter and author of the acclaimed novel Harold the King will be signing books in the English Heritage Marquee on both days from 12.30 - 2.30pm. Associate producer Lance Prebble will be there representing the production.
The ‘Battle Weekend’ coincides with the Hollywood Film Festival and both producers Robin Jacob and Chris Carson will be attending to business in Los Angeles.
With several radio and newspaper interviews already lined up Helen Hollick is expecting a busy and fulfilling weekend – more than 200 re-enactors re-create the tension and atmosphere of this unique battle which altered the course of English history when William of Normandy - by military genius or a stroke of luck – defeated Harold II King of England. She will be discussing Harold’s tactics with the “soldiers”, experiencing the Saxon way of life in the living history encampments and authentic medieval market, and meeting many of the readers who are fans of her well researched and superbly written historical novels – as well as meeting Mark Lester and explaining why Harold is such an important hero to the English.
