Consumer Watchdog Group Issues Warning About Beer With Caffeine
Molson Canada, Labatt Breweries & Budweiser Have New Products, But New Side Effects, Says CAA
(I-Newswire) - Brooklyn, New York The Caffeine Awareness Alliance ( CAA ) today warned consumers that new beers like Molson Kick, Labatt's Shok and Budweiser Select are laced with the mood-altering drug known as caffeine. CAA says the move increases the odds that unwitting consumers will experience increased blood pressure, accelerated dehydration, anxiety, nervousness, restlessness, insomnia, jitteriness, upset stomach or withdrawal symptoms associated with caffeine.
Marina Kushner, founder of the non-profit organization, stated “It’s bad enough that alcohol can be addicting on its own. Caffeine addiction can make matters worse." Caffeine withdrawal can include headaches, nausea, reduced alertness and depressed mood."
The organization sponsors National Caffeine Awareness Month annually in March. The event calls attention to the risk associated with caffeine dependency and intoxication. A recent study by Rolland Griffiths, a professor of behavioral biology and neuroscience at the John Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, believes that caffeine dependency should be considered as an addiction and be treated. Professor Griffiths has set up the first clinic dedicated to caffeine addiction to help consumers quit the habit.
