Physical Activity Is Natural Pain Reliever for Arthritis

GlideCycle Products Manages Arthritis Pain by Doing Cardio-Aerobic Respiratory Exercise

(I-Newswire) July 29, 2010 - It may seem counterintuitive to exercise when suffering withjoint pain, but physical activity is actually a natural pain reliever for most people suffering from arthritis. A recent study published in the July issue of Arthritis Care & Research journalconcluded that cardio-aerobic respiratory exercise is an effective course in significantly improving and managing arthritis pain. This is good news for the aging population of U.S. baby boomers who want to get back to basics with a natural remedy for pain.

In fact, according to the Arthritis Foundation, arthritis is projected to increase by 40 percent, affecting 67 million Americans, in the next two decades. The 1 percent of the global population that is struck by the disease, which is characterized by swollen joints, pain, stiffness, fatigue and a general sense of being unwell, are also 40 percent more likely to say they are in fair or poor general health, the World Health Organization has noted. The in-depth study determined that cardio-respiratory exercise is safe for patients with stable rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The team found that RA patients who exercised regularly had
improved function, less joint pain, and greater quality of life. Full findings of the study are now available online and will publish in the July print issue of Arthritis Care & Research, a journal of the American College of Rheumatology.

"Our results show that patients with stable RA would benefit from regular cardio-respiratory exercise," said Dr. Athan Baillet, M.D. "Cardio aerobic exercise help to reduce joint pain and
improve function."

The American College of Rheumatology states that exercise is beneficial for everyone, including those with RA, and currently recommends 150 minutes of moderate intensity cardio activity each
week. Cardio training is any type of exercise that raises the heart rate over an extended period of time. Cardio benefits include reduced risk of heart attack, stroke and metabolic syndrome which
leads to diabetes. While still an important part of any fitness program, studies show that optimal health and weight loss benefits are not realized until you have trained for at least 30 minutes a
day. The key is to increase exercise intensity until you break a sweat, but can still carry on a normal conversation.

There are several ways to do this such as riding a GlideCycle™. which offers a high-level cardio-aerobic workout with ease. The GlideCycle™ looks a little like a bike, but with a frame over the top of the body rather than underneath - and no pedals. Body weight is supported and suspended in a patented ergonomic saddle that holds the pelvis in counterpoise between the buttock bones and pelvic horns. This enables you to walk, run or glide with no pressure on the crotch or perineum like a bicycle, and with almost no impact. Numerous adjustments can be made for different body shapes and preferences to further enhance comfort. It usually takes less than 20 minutes to master the basics while tight turning and running uphill can be achieved with a little more practice. Balancing is not difficult, as essentially you always have your feet, or a foot, on the ground unless coasting.
