Tempe, AZ (I-Newswire) March 21, 2011 - Tempe Junior Crew rowing club based on Tempe Town Lake will be participating in the prestigious PAC 10 Challenge Regatta March 26-27.

Each year the regatta, hosted by Stanford University’s men’s and women’s rowing teams, invites the top university rowing programs from around the nation to compete on the world-class course at Redwood Shores in Palo Alto, CA. The regatta organizers also choose who they believe are the top junior programs in the nation to compete in exhibition races during the breaks between the college races. This year’s college invitees include:

UCLA
University of Virginia
Stanford
Princeton
University of Wisconsin
University of California Berkeley
St. Mary’s College
Santa Clara University

Four of TJC’s top rowers will represent the club and all of Arizona rowing in the Junior Women’s 2X and Junior Women’s 4X events.

These are Tempe Junior Crew’s marquis events as the crew has qualified for the National Championships each of the last four years in these boats including winning the national title in the Junior Women’s Lightweight 2X in 2008.

This marks the second year in a row that Tempe Junior Crew has been invited to prestigious national events. Last year the team was invited to attend the world renowned “Windermere Cup Opening Day Regatta” in Seattle, WA.

Three of the rowers rowing this weekend are seniors and have received athletic scholarships to row in college. One will row for University of Wisconsin, one for University of Iowa, and one for the University of Texas. The fourth rower is a sophomore with high potential.

Athletes and coach, Daniel Duxbury, are available for interviews and photos.
