Phillips Graduate Institute Celebrates 40 Years of Academic Excellence at Its New Campus

Los Angeles (I-Newswire) October 18, 2011 - Phillips Graduate Institute (www.pgi.edu ) , a nonprofit educational, counseling, consulting, training and research center that focuses on master’s and doctoral degrees, celebrates its 40th year of academic excellence on Sunday, October 23 at its new location in Chatsworth, California.

“I’m very excited to celebrate our 40th academic year at our brand new campus,” said Phillips Graduate Institute President, Yolanda J. Gorman M.B.A., Ph.D. “After four decades of innovative education, we moved to a new campus to accommodate our growth. Phillips Graduate Institute’s faculty is composed of 30 top practicing professionals in the field of psychology and 67 adjunct professors. More than 250 students have been enrolled for the Fall 2011 semester. The Institute offers master’s and doctoral level degrees for professionals dedicated to improving organizational and human relationships in business settings and in the community. Phillips’ programs are designed to help students put theory into practice so that they will have the real world tools and experience needed to excel in their chosen field.

Its graduate programs in marriage and family therapy and psychology attract a diverse groups of students brought together by the conviction that families are part of the solution to the challenges faced by the individual. The Organizational Management and Consulting doctoral program is designed to enhance the personal and professional skills of consultants, managers and leaders.

About Yolanda Nunn Gorman, M.B.A., Ph.D
A three-time graduate of UCLA, Dr. Gorman holds a B.A. in psychology, an M.B.A. from the Anderson School and a Ph.D. in education. Dr. Gorman is immediate past chairperson of the California Association of Nonprofits (CAN) and the immediate past-president of the UCLA Alumni Association. Her involvement with the Association was launched with her participation in the inaugural class of the Alumni Academy. Since then she has served on the UCLA Board first as director, then vice president and president-elect. In 2005 she led the Association's strategic planning process, developing a new plan to guide the organization into the future. Dr. Gorman went on to serve for two years on the UC Board of Regents and is now Regent Emeritus.

She is currently co-chair of the Chaka Khan Foundation. Dr. Gorman's other volunteer activities have included serving as a member of the boards of the UCLA Foundation, CAN Insurance Services, and the National Council of Nonprofit Associations (NCNA). She was member of the editorial board of the UCLA Magazine and the author of several articles and papers on nonprofit capacity building and small business management. Dr. Gorman is the author of “A basic Guide to Proposal Writing,” a workbook that serves as an invaluable fundraising tool for the nonprofit community.
