Peter Workum Comments on Economic Growth Fueled by Female Entrepreneurs
A new report suggests that many of the world’s top entrepreneurs are women—a finding that has won the praise of business developer Peter Workum.
New York, New York (I-Newswire) July 17, 2012 - Over the years, there have been many discussions about the “Glass Ceiling” effect, and how women can often have a more difficult time than men when it comes to succeeding in the business world. While there may be many regards in which sexism does exist in the workplace, however, a recent USA Today article offers some good news for women with a mind for business. The report notes that many of the world’s top entrepreneurs are, in fact, female—and that women are fueling the economic growth of countries across the planet, including in places like China, India, and Brazil. The report has won the attention, and the favor, of men like Peter Workum, a long-time business development expert and successful entrepreneur.
Peter Workum has founded, developed, and managed numerous companies over a 25-year period, and has yielded ultimate market capitalizations of more than $355 million. Passionate about small business growth and entrepreneurship, Workum has issued a new statement in response to the USA Today piece, in which he celebrates the prominent role that woman are playing in fueling economic growth.
“This sort of article confirms that one of the many beauties of the Entrepreneurial Spirit in action is that it is blind to its source,” says Peter Workum in his press statement, praising the success that female business owners are finding all across the planet. “Whether by originating new products or services, or by improving on those already in existence, the benefits of entrepreneurial activities are rife.”
Ultimately, though, Workum believes the bottom line in this story has less to do with sexism of gender politics, and more to do with a spirit of inclusion that animates the best entrepreneurial endeavors. “Additionally, it is one of the few human endeavors where the more who are involved, the better for all involved,” Workum says of small business entrepreneurial activity.
The USA Today article, meanwhile, notes that global entrepreneurship is growing, particularly among women—in other words, that more women are successfully launching and running new businesses all the time. Studies find that, at the end of 2010, 187 million women across the planet had launched and ran businesses.
The article’s bottom line is simply that “women entrepreneurs and small-business owners are the propellers behind much of that growth” in some of the world’s fastest-growing economies—despite the continued stereotype of many of these countries, such as India, as being resistant to female business ownership.
Stereotypes aside, the article notes that not only are there many women in India and other fast-growing economies who have an entrepreneurial spirit, but there are also many opportunities for business development, many of them stemming from sustained middle class growth.
