Perini completes CityCenter on time for its grand opening ceremony.

(I-Newswire) December 30, 2009 - Perini Building Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corporation (NYSE: TPC), completes CityCenter on time for its grand opening ceremony. CityCenter is the largest private development in the nation. Architectural highlights of the 67-acre urban development are ARIA Resort & Casino, a 4,004-guest room hotel; Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas; Vdara Hotel & Spa; The Harmon Hotel; Crystals retail & entertainment district; and Veer Towers. Eight renowned architects participated in the project’s design. CityCenter is a joint venture between MGM MIRAGE (NYSE: MGM) and Infinity World Development Corp, a subsidiary of Dubai World.

Perini’s construction contract also encompassed CityCenter’s ancillary facilities and infrastructure, including a five-story central plant, fire station, five parking garages for over 19,000 cars, Nevada power substation, site utilities, new roads and overpasses, and landscape installation. By the numbers, construction spanned 18 million square feet and is comparable to building more than 12 major structures all opening at the same time. A record 50 million man hours were expended to build this project on schedule.

“Perini Building Company is one of just a very few companies we believed would be able to accomplish a task of CityCenter’s size and complexity. The Perini team’s responsiveness and professionalism was instrumental in allowing us to remain on schedule for a 2009 opening. We look forward to the opportunity to work with them in the future,” said Bobby Baldwin, president and CEO of CityCenter.

“Not only is CityCenter one of the most ambitious developments ever built, it is an industry leader in design complexity, environmental sustainability, construction diversity participation, and manpower,” said Craig Shaw, president and CEO of Perini Building Company.

CityCenter is one of the world’s largest environmentally sustainable developments to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council. As the general contractor, Perini had a significant impact on earning LEED certification. Perini managed LEED compliance for over $1 billion worth of building materials. The sustainable efforts Perini performed were construction waste management, site pollution prevention, indoor air quality, regional and recycled content material procurement, and the use of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood.

Perini Building Company spent more than $625 million in construction contracts with over 180 minority-owned firms throughout the project. The project employed approximately 10,000 craftspeople at the peak of construction. Perini’s own construction staff at CityCenter consisted of over 500 individuals.

“We are extremely proud of the thousands of individuals involved in the construction process. It was a massive undertaking to coordinate and manage all of the people and components at CityCenter. The commitment and collaboration of everyone involved has resulted in an historic project,” stated Mark Caspers, executive vice president of Tutor Perini Corporation and chief executive officer of Tutor Perini Building Group.
