PCAC Begins Its First Intergenerational Leadership Academy

Hallandale Beach, FL (I-Newswire) October 14, 2011 - The Palms Community Action Coalition (PCAC) of Hallandale, Florida will conduct its first Intergenerational Leadership Academy on November 5, 2011. The Academy is sponsored by the Center for All Ages (CFAA) wherein 20 citizens of the City of Hallandale comprising of both youth and elderly individuals will be trained and equipped to become productive leaders within their community. They will also learn to value the differences and gain knowledge of the shared values of both generations.

Sherea Atkins is the Chairperson and Facilitator for the Academy. Ms. Atkins a leader in her own right, is a paralegal of 20 years; a member of the Human Services Board and Planning and Zoning Board of the City of Hallandale; and a part of the pastoral staff at Spirit of Life Ministries in Hallandale Beach, FL.

The PCAC has gathered a plethora of speakers from government officials, community activist, business owners, authors, and present day leaders in the community. Some of the topics will include: Understanding Leadership; The Importance of Integrity in Leadership; Self Assessment & Goal Setting; Shared Values and Valuing People; Decision Making and Problem Solving; Managing Conflict; and Moving into Action.

According to the CFAA, this is a prototype for South Florida. The CFAA via the Urban League of Broward County is hopeful that this Academy will be a sucess. The Academy will run 8 non-consecutive weeks and upon completion, each graduate will receive certificates of completion along with a stipend.

The PCAC is pursuing further grants to continue this Academy and eventually spread throughout the tri-county area of South Florida.

The PCAC acknowledges the Urban League of Broward County and CFAA, the inaugural sponsors, for having the vision to help launch this program.

Applications are now being accepted to become a Speaker or Sponsor on a local or national level.
