New fundraising site Wishingfund.com launches and is now helping grant wishes by uniting the community. The goal is to bring out the good in people and inspire them to help others without worrying about where to find the money to do so.

Tampa, FL (I-Newswire) June 16, 2011 - Two weeks ago, Florida resident and Internet entrepreneur Scott Kurland, best known for the popular early 2000’s contest site Windough.com, launched WishingFund.com, a site dedicated to promoting good deeds and helping others by providing a platform for posting, promoting and granting inspiring wishes that help people, groups or causes. The mission of the site is to “help and inspire people, one amazing wish at a time”.

Industry-leading fundraising sites like kickstarter.com and firstgiving.com have their own unique missions to help individuals raise money for their creative projects or non-profits by connecting recipients in need with willing givers. What WishingFund.com has done differently is created a platform for anyone to upload a wish for free and allow the community of members to vote for which wish to fund next from the continually growing fund. This allows anyone in the community to get involved in granting wishes, even if the size of their heart exceeds the size of their pocketbook. It also makes sure that the best and most inspiring wishes that connect well with the community get the visibility and priority they deserve. Founder Kurland elaborates:

“The most exciting thing for me about WishingFund is not only that it helps people in a very direct, social and transparent way, but that it also automatically highlights and promotes the most inspiring wishes and best ideas for doing good. I imagine that within a very short period of time, we will all be amazed with what ends up at the top of our funding list, and I for one can’t wait!”

The site has already funded six wishes ranging from sending cigars to the troops to giving toys and necessities to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital. During the initial beta period the maximum amount of funding possible for each wish is capped at $50 and the only way to get a wish funded is to inspire the community enough to vote it to the top. Future enhancements may include lifting the $50 limit and allowing members to grant wishes unilaterally without waiting for them to reach the top of the list.

Becoming a member of the site, making wishes and voting are all free, although members may choose to contribute as little as $2.00/mo to support the fund.

Although WishingFund is not a registered 501(c)3 charity, it does not earn any income from the fund, but rather gives paying members the option of contributing an extra amount of money each month to help the site grow. While the site is in its Beta phase, it will continue testing methods for granting wishes, interacting with members on the site and working to grow WishingFund as much as possible. The initial goal is to get 100 wishes on the site, which Kurland hopes to achieve by the end of June.
