Passport to Syracuse, An Effort To Strengthen The Downtown Community.

Passport to Syracuse is an event that encourages Syracuse’s residents to visit businesses that make up the downtown community. The event will run from July 14 to July 28.

Syracuse (I-Newswire) July 24, 2012 - Passport to Syracuse, an event to highlight the business community that makes up Syracuse’s downtown, will run for two weeks, starting July 14 and ending July 28. The event is presented by Syracuse First in cooperation with 40 Below and is an attempt to “#KeepSyracuseSalty.”

“Keep Syracuse Salty,” a play on words reflecting Syracuse’s rich history in the salt industry, is a movement to support local businesses. Think local. Buy local. Be local.

“This is a great event,” said Lou Lemos, owner of BTI Travel, which is participating in Passport to Syracuse. “The Syracuse community is made up of outstanding companies, and we should take a shared interest in their success.”

Businesses will welcome local pedestrians and individuals participating in Passport to Syracuse. The event will encourage citizens to discover different companies that make up the diverse downtown business community. Businesses, in an attempt to attract more people, will offer passport specials, events and giveaways. BTI Travel will run informational sessions throughout the two weeks, including Carnival Cruises, Beaches all-inclusive resorts, Septre Irish Tours and more.

“Syracuse is a city that could be great,” said Josh Snyder, a new resident of Syracuse, who moved from Raleigh, North Carolina. “Its citizens need to take pride in where they live. This event will give people a chance to visit the businesses that make this city great.”

Participants will visit as many businesses as possible. You’ll check in to these places via Facebook. Each check in earns points (extra points if you write a review and email it to info@itsallheresyracuse.com).

Those who do not wish to participate through electronic check-ins can instead “check-in” by getting a stamp from the participating location.

Those participating in this way should download and print the Passport from the 40 Below Passport page, http://40belowsyracuse.com/passport-to-syracuse/. Hard copies of the Passport will also be available for pick-up at the 40 Below Family Picnic on July 14th.

A list of participating businesses can be found on 40 below’s website http://40belowsyracuse.com/passport-to-syracuse/passport-destinations/. To find more information on the event, visit http://40belowsyracuse.com/passport-to-syracuse/.

The object of Passport to Syracuse is to collect the most points. The Winner will receive a Kindle Fire.

Register your participation by friending Passport to Syracuse on Facebook. Make sure to tag “Passport to Syracuse” when you check in (via Facebook) to participating businesses. And write reviews – feedback is key for businesses to grow and improve.
